Leading Cannabis Law Group The Oganyan Agency Recognized as Top 100 Business by UCLA
The Oganyan Agency, a bespoke business law agency headquartered in Huntington Beach, CA, has been named to the University of California Los Angeles (‘UCLA”) Alumni Association's inaugural Bruin Business 100. This initiative recognizes exceptional UCLA alumni entrepreneurs who impact their industries and communities by providing products, services, and purpose that lift the community while expanding and inspiring UCLA excellence and innovation.
The Oganyan Agency is the only company specializing in building and scaling compliant commercial cannabis businesses in California from seed to sale through premiere legal and business consulting services, licensing and regulatory compliance solutions, and resources for all license types. The company’s portfolio is a consciously curated collection of iconic cannabis brands that positively impact communities and prioritize corporate social responsibility.
The success of the business is attributed to its founder and CEO Tatev Oganyan, a leading attorney specializing in cannabis. In her distinguished career, Tatev serves as counsel to leading, private and public cannabis companies, managing projects and transactions ranging $10-500+ million.
“We operate with an entrepreneurial mindset and can-do leadership at every level. UCLA is world-renowned and highly competitive, at the heart of our success, where I was free to explore a variety of interests while learning the value of a purposeful life,” said Tatev.
Tatev earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from UCLA and her law degree and Master's in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law. Tatev was born in Echmiadzin, Armenia and immigrated to Burbank, California in 1992 at the age of three. Through the challenges of learning a new world and language, her family raised her to unapologetically break barriers and beat the odds.
“It’s an American dream come true to be honored by UCLA and to represent Bruins in cannabis, law and human rights advocacy,” continued Tatev, “Launching a cannabis business requires tenacity, grit, and a gunner mentality. The challenge is invigorating and demands an appreciation and understanding of the complex and conflicting laws governing operators.”
Over the last 12 months, Tatev served as licensing and regulatory counsel to the largest cannabis retailer project in California to date, Planet 13 Orange County located in the City of Santa Ana. As a top dispensary, Planet 13 strives to provide the best quality recreational cannabis, cannabis extracts, and infused products available at competitive prices and with compassion that can only come from those who are knowledgeable in the field.
Tatev managed cannabis-specific local, state, and federal licensing, permitting and regulatory requirements related to the project, which contributes eight (8%) of gross revenue tax to the City allocated to libraries, park improvements, and youth services.
She also successfully represented both Planet 13 and Next Green Wave (a leading, publicly traded cannabis company) in completing Planet 13’s acquisition of Next Green Wave, which increased vertical integration, enabling Planet 13 to expand its popular brand portfolio in California starting with premium small batch flower strains by TRENDI which launched exclusively in Planet 13 last month.
Tatev joins an exceptional community of UCLA alumni entrepreneurs who are founders, owners, and visionaries in their industries. “We set the standard for our industry and community with our clients, impress and produce high caliber art and entertainment. We are licensing and permitting our wildest dreams,” exclaimed Tatev.
Planet 13 will be commemorating its one-year business anniversary next month by hosting a community Farmer’s Market on July 1st from 2-7pm featuring a neighborhood sample sale and immersive experience of quality products to jumpstart the Fourth of July weekend in Orange County.
The Oganyan Agency is also committed to positively impacting veterans, students, and women with mentorship, hiring and charity practices focused on empowering projects and organizations that provide equal access to science-backed products and education.
Tatev is the co-founder of the Newport Coast CBD Invitational, a golf tournament at Pelican Hill benefiting the Infinite Hero Foundation. Additionally, she coaches and employs UCLA and Pepperdine alumni interested in a cannabis career from the departments of Biology, Engineering, Political Science and Law.
