Mindy Kaling Kicks Off Sundance By Receiving the IMDb STARmeter Award
Sundance Film Festival has officially kicked off! As celebs head to Park City for the two-week festival which celebrates major A-listers as well as indie filmmakers alike, there is no shortage of entertainment. Today, one of our favorite trail blazers, Mindy Kaling received the IMDb Starmeter Award!
The IMDb STARmeter Awards recognizes entertainment industry luminaries who are fan favorites on the IMDbPro STARmeter chart, which is determined by the page views of the more than 250 million unique monthly visitors to IMDb worldwide. Previous IMDb STARmeter Award Recipients include Bill Skarsgård, Sam Rockwell, Tatiana Maslany, Brie Larson, Felicity Jones, Olivia Wilde, Bryce Dallas Howard, Peter Dinklage and Miles Teller.
Widely known for her role in The Office, as well as many other notable films such as Ocean’s Eight and A Wrinkle in Time and television, Kaling has quickly become a fan favorite. She is a beacon of light for her go-getter mentality and using her voice to speak up for social injustice and underrepresentation in Hollywood.
“Particularly if you’re a woman of color, you need people to give you opportunities," Kaling said in arecent interview. "Talent is an important part of success, but you also need mentors to find promise in people that don’t necessarily seem like they will fit in.”
In addition to all of her accomplishments, she wrote, produced and stars in the film Late Night, making its world premiere TONIGHT at the Sundance Film Festival! Check out just how she plans to prepare for the festival this year HERE!
