Mama Shelter Revamps Menu with Unique Temptations
If you’ve been in Los Angeles, chances are you’ve heard about Mama Shelter. The hotspot in the centre of Hollywood has been the place to go for quite some time due to their incredible rooftop. Located on the corner of Selma and Wilcox, Mama Shelter is more than a place to catch the sunset with impeccable views it’s now. place to grab a delicious dinner.
Beginning your culinary journey of course starts with a beverage. I’d suggest the “Howard Hughes,” as it has a kick. The beverage is crisp, clean, and straight forward and to the point. Comprised of Hendricks gin, luxardo, creme de violet, lemon, and a cherry, this was one of the better beverages on the menu. If you’re looking for something with a bit more oomph, look no further than the “Smoke Show.” It’s a twist on a Negroni and includes Vida Mezcal, Campari, Antica Carpano, and an orange. Now that drinks are underway, let’s move to the main attraction - the food!
The great thing about the menu, is the bulk of the items are on the smaller side and sharable. Create your perfect multi-course meal by trying multiple options. The Albacore Tuna is a thin wonton tostada topped with tuna, sesame leche de tigre, pickled ginger, fresno chili, cilantro. It’s light, crisp, and an item to be on your radar.
The pork belly was another option we tried. The presentation was next level, however, the flavor left a bit to be desired. In a bowl, fried pork belly was crisped to perfection and surrounded by cranberry beans, tomatoes, scallions. The petite filet mignon was cooked to perfction and one of the better steaks of Hollywood. Complete with salsify, lollipop kale, potato gratin, and black garlic molasses, the petit mignon will be on rotation. We rounded out our meal with the Chocoflan and it was one of the best decisions. With hints of rum caramel and topped with almonds and espresso ice cream, the flan was far from average.
The decor for the beloved restaurant is full of fun and colorful hues with cute light fixtures. With the works “Mama Says Eat Me,” and “Mama Says Drink Me,” everything, even the menu, is playful. Mama Shelter is a great place to take out of town visitors. It provides an intimate setting in the midst of a bustling city, and not to mention a pretty stellar view of the Hollywood sign from the rooftop. It’s also a perfect destination for a date or a catch up with friends, Mama Shelter provides a great dining experience.
