Pop songstress Tara Macri has been taking the music industry to new heights - literally! Her recently released single, Meet Me on Mars, is definitely defining her craft.

Imagine Colbie Caillat, Pink! and Amos Lee walk into a recording studio and you'll have the soft, yet pop-powerhouse talented, Tara Macri!

In a recent interview with Just Jared she mentioned the a bit on the single itself!

“The song is a love story with the idea that Mars needs to be a place where everyone can go and be anything you want with anyone you want,” she shared. “It’s a fresh start with no one there to judge you…it’s a place where you can be your best self.”

From having a career in Broadway and working alongside John Stamos and Nick Jonas (in Hairspray) to landing on BillBoards Top 80 with her single "Prettiest Girl in the Room," Macri proves to IdentifyLA that she is ONLY getting started!

The following interview has been edited for continuity purposes.

Identify LA: You recently released your album, 'Meet Me on Mars,' what is the theme of the album and what can fans expect?

Tara Macri: The album definitely has a theme! It's about overcoming obstacles, it's a love story. It's about having a place anyone can go for a fresh start. It's about fighting and overcoming it all!

IDLA: Would you say this is more from personal experience, or how do you overcome obstacles?

TM: Yea, there's a bit of personal experience in there. I'd go into the studio and write about whatever I was going through.

IDLA: Who influences your music?

TM: There's a little bit of everyone! I could go on and on! I'm influenced by Pink!, Colbie Caillat, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Amos Lee - I can seriously keep going! The Beatles, I used to listen a lot with my dad! Their single, "For No One," is very simple yet so powerful. I like to play on the piano and do an acoustic stripped down version during my live shows.

IDLA: How do you stay grounded?

TM: I visit home a lot, it keeps me grounded. Yoga and meditation also helps. You have to check-in (with yourself) daily and be grateful.

IDLA: Speaking of meditation, have you tried to Calm app?

TM: Yes! The Calm app is great!I also use Mindfullness, it's another great one and it's so relaxing. Dan Harris wrote a book called "10% Happy" and this app is a great extention of that.

IDLA: Your single, "Home" touches on dealing with mental illness. In lieu of the unfortunate news with Demi Lovato, what encouraging words would you say to anyone dealing with mental illness or substance abuse?

TM: Mental health is a huge issue and it's about how you get through the lows. You never truly know what anyone is going through. Thanks to social media, because it serves as an out in a positive way and not to mention the support numbers to call. We just have to get better about reaching out and making sure people are really OK!

IDLA: What is one important message you strive to convey to your fan base?

TM: Whenever you get knocked down you have to get right back up. Whether it's a job or anything, just keep pushing through.

Currently Macri is touring and plans to release a new single in the Fall, which will showcase a different side of her, (we tried to get the scoop on this, but that is all we can share - for now!) Check out the video below and let us know your thoughts in the comments!
