Located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, the Hofsas House is a boutique family-owned inn with 37 uniquely decorated, spacious rooms, many with ocean views overlooking the pines. Nestled just a couple of blocks from the main strip, Hofsas House is an intimate romantic getaway that caters to its guests. If you’re looking to disconnect – then this is the place from you.
The rooms are similar to a room in a family cottage. Warm and fuzzy! In fact, it is a family-run hotel that has been opened since the 1940s.
“I’m very proud of the fact that we are working on the 3rd generation, my son is the 4th. My grandma and I were very close,” states Carrie Theis, Manager of Hofsas House. “It’s really with an open heart that I’m so blessed to live in Carmel and carry on the tradition. Thanks to her, I get to do that. It’s a nice little bubble, but it’s a beautiful bubble.”
The charming hotel is surrounded with pink and feminine adornments– similar to a fairytale cottage. The hotel also sports unique architecture which makes this hotel one to remember.
Dutch doors appoint each room, allowing our guests to enjoy the fresh ocean air. Watch glorious sunsets over the Pacific Ocean from the privacy of the inn's decks or rooms. The rooms are filled with small touches to make you feel welcomed. Selected rooms also have fireplaces, private balconies, wet bars or kitchens. Let’s dive more into the perfect location! The Hofsas House is located three blocks north of Ocean Avenue, eight blocks from the picturesque white sand Carmel Beach and one block from a child-friendly City Park. There are plenty of eateries in the area, however we opted for a beach picnic with goodies from 5th Avenue Deli! 5th Avenue Deli is a local favorite and may just have the best Reuben in Carmel! The deli has both hot and cold options making it perfect for a day at the beach. The Tri-Tip sandwich is juicy, mouth-watering and packed with flavor. Don’t skip the desserts at this place! The sliced lemon cake is noteworthy and the best way to end your meal!

This mural was originally painted by a local artist when Hofsas House first opened. It has since been retouched in order to preserve the history of the hotel.
As far as added perks, this hotel has plenty oof them! Enjoy a continental breakfast in the morning with French Roast coffee, tea, yogurt, fresh pastries delivered from a local bakery, juice and fruit. There is also plenty of on-sight parking! The area is best to be explored by foot, so once you park – leave the car in order to truly understand the area and all of it’s unique charm.
