Explore Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea: Our Top Picks for a Central Coast Favorite
Carmel-By-The-Sea and Monterey are two charming seaside destinations known for its romantic beaches that span miles and miles. The quaint cities are adorned with an enchanting village ambiance, bright hues, and an inviting environment which is why both Carmel-By-The-Sea and Monterey makes for the perfect weekend getaway.
When visiting, opt to stay at a central hotel such as the Hofsas House. It’s located near the main strip while also being walking distance to the Carmel beach – the best of both worlds. One thing you’ll easily notice about Carmel are the number of eateries. Bring your walking shoes, stretchy pants and prepare yourself – there are a lot!
During our trip we tried many amazing bites that were all very vastly different it was shocking. Take a look at a few of our favorites sips, sights, and bites below!
Lugano’s Swiss Bistro:
What is there not to love about Lugano’s Swiss Bistro? It’s a traditional Swiss eatery specializing in fondue. The menu was created under the culinary direction of Chef Andre Lengacher, who was one of the finest award-winning Chefs of Europe. He always said, “Cooking is not only a profession, but also an art,” and that is very apparent when exploring their menu.
The Swiss Onion Soup is a MUST! It’s an upscale, decadent take on a classic favorite. Wrapped in a Gruyere and Emmenthal cheese crust – spectacular.
The menu has it all from seafood and bratwurst to fondue - you name it! Being a Swiss Bistro, undoubtedly you should try their Swiss specialties. The Schnitzel is lightly breaded and pan-fried pork loin with lemon, capers, anchovy garnish, späzli, and red cabbage. It also happens to be voted “Monterey’s Best.”
The fondue spread is truly impeccable. All fondues are served with Carmel Valley Greens and Romaine Salad. The Swiss Original Cheese Fondue is what dreams are made of! It’s Gruyere, Emmenthaler, and Appenzeller Cheese dipping bread, Vegetables and Apples. They also serve a combination oof chicken, beef, and seafood fondue. Whatever you fancy, they have it! I would suggest trying the four-course fondue sampler so you can get a taste of everything.
For the full experience, the space itself is adorned with decorative pieces and festive colors similar to Swiss restaurants in Switzerland. You’ll notice trinkets as well as few facts and customs noted on the menus.
Be sure to bring an appetite when dining here as you’ll want one of everything! DEFINITELY get the schnitzel!

This is the perfect place to grab a picnic and head to the beach. To make it easy, they even create picnic kits for the venture! Get adventurous and try their hoot items like the Tri-Tip sandwich, which is made with authentically seasoned Santa Maria Tri -Tip and topped with provolone cheese.

Grab a glass of wine (or many):
Carmel-by-the-Sea has tons of wineries within walking distance which are all easily accessible. Rest assured that each place is taking precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With that being said reservations are a must as space is extremely limited and of course for the safety of travelers and staff.
A few of my favorite were Galante Vineyards, Hahn, Albatross Tasting Room, and Del Tierra Vineyards!

Work up a sweat during a hydrobike session in the beautiful Monterey Bay! During your excursion you’ll come across many forms of wildlife such as: sea lions, otters, jelly fishes, tons of birds, and more. The important thing is to be cautious by giving space and not surrounding the wildlife when riding as you do not want to scare them off. Tread with care and you may get lucky and have a curious otter ride alongside you! You’ll be one with nature and able to take in the sights while working up a bit of an appetite.
