"LA Times Food Bowl" Opening Night - Mesamerica, DFiesta, and La Cita Takeover DTLA
Recently The Los Angeles Times Food Bowl kicked off their month-long festival at Opening Night, Mesamérica and DFiesta. Held at The Million Dollar Theater, Grand Central Market, and La Cita, this three-part event served to celebrate the 50th anniversary between Los Angeles and Mexico City and bring notable Mexican and Mexican-Americans to talk about the interconnectedness between the two cities.
Mesamérica L.A. is the first incarnation of chef Enrique Olvera’s (Owner/Chef at Pujol, Mexico City) celebrated symposium to be held outside of Mexico. Olvera and L.A. Times Food Editor Peter Meehan have curated a program that explores the art, architecture, identity and the meaning of tacos will be explored through talks, video and song.
Following Mesamérica L.A., DFiesta took place next door at Grand Central Market and at the nearby La Cita Bar and included for-purchase chef collaborations, roving Mariachi bands and other Mexico City-inspired merriment. The DFiesta continues with post-reception cocktails and entertainment at La Cita Bar, just south of the market.
Food included tacos from Guerrilla Tacos, Tacos 1986, Horse Thief BBQ, Los Panchos, Petty Cash, Sari Sari Store, The Oyster Gourmet, China Café and Enrique Olvera’s forthcoming taqueria Ditroit.
