Johnny Burgos Delivers Cinematic Music Video for Single "Get Back"
Johnny Burgos and veteran soul producer, Jeremy Page, (best known for his work with Kendra Morris, Czarface & MF Doom) return with a cinematic and heartfelt music video for “Get Back.” The retro soul fourth single “Get Back” featured on the duo’s upcoming album titled All I Ever Wonder (scheduled for release in May via SoulSpazm Records) was released February 16th. The track provides a vulnerable and retrospective look at a love gone cold with the hope of rekindling the magic that once kept its flame alive. Co-directed by Johnny and Malik Chatman, the video stars Burgos alongside actress Feather Monet. “Get Back” tells the story of a couple whose romance blooms and eventually withers despite the bond they built roller skating together.
Filmed predominantly at Brooklyn's vibrant roller skate community hub, BKLYN Skates, the storyline unfolds with cinematic allure. The video seamlessly mirrors the song's lyrics, illustrating the highs of their relationship before transitioning to the present, where frustration and discontentment are palpable. Rooted in realism, the video's aesthetic exudes a nostalgic ambiance, enhanced by subtle moments of camera magic that contribute to a compelling visual experience which verberates with profound emotional resonance. This music video foreshadows a profound and compelling upcoming sophomore album release from the extremely talented Johnny Burgos.
“Since I started roller skating again during the pandemic, after not skating for decades, I became enamored by the community behind it and the impact it has on people’s lives. It didn’t take long to feel the cultural significance of this community and what having those few opportunities to skate every week does for people's emotional well-being, specifically, people of color, from marginalized inner-city communities, people who reminded me of my own family, just minutes from where I was born and raised in Brooklyn. What really inspired the video was seeing the couples that show up together, especially the older ones, or the OG’s who come solo in hopes that their favorite skate partner is there to work on their routines or just enjoy each other's company on the skate floor. Seeing these experienced couples skate together is truly something spiritual, literally poetry in motion, and exemplifies a successful loving partnership built on trust and communication. Because of that and my growing affinity for roller skating, I knew it had to be my vessel for this story. I’ve been a fan of both Malik’s work and Feather's skating/vibe for a while and it was truly an honor and a pleasure to work with them on this video.” —Johnny Burgos
