About Black Rock Thoroughbreds, LLP
Founded in 2009, Black Rock Thoroughbreds is an industry leader in cultivating top equestrian talent including notable thoroughbreds I Want Revenge, Silver Medallion, Violence and Far From Over to name a few. Far From Over was a Top 10 Derby Contender until suffering an injury one week before the Wood Memorial two years ago and Violence was the Winter Book favorite to win the Kentucky Derby in 2013 before getting injured in the Fountain of Youth Stakes, placing second to eventual Derby winner Orb. Black Rock is owned by Oilman Steven Marshall, CEO and President of Western Energy Production, who became interested in horse racing through his dear friend and mentor friend Bill Allen, owner of Wild Again. Marshall’s horse breeding operation is based at his Black Rock Farm in Versailles. When asked about the Kentucky Derby Mr. Marshall recently stated, “Everyone knows that it has always been a dream of mine to win the Derby, so when both Violence and Far From Over came up injured the past few years it has been tough, to say the least. We keep moving forward though and one day soon, hopefully we will see a Violence Colt on the track running for the Roses! We look forward to continuing our support for the Kentucky Derby with another epic Fillies & Stallions Party, that has obviously taken on a life of its own since Noah Flom and I came up with the idea 9 years ago. The original idea of throwing a party for a few close buddies has now turned into this Wow!
About Fillies & Stallions
In 2009 after Black Rock’s horse scratched the morning of the Derby race, Steven Marshall hit the exacta with “Mine That Bird” to win over $1MM, the largest single ticket win in the history of Churchill Downs. Marshall’s love for the Derby was solidified as he and long-time friend Noah Flom partnered up to throw the greatest party to celebrate and bring additional national and international attention to the Kentucky Derby. Dubbed the “Fillies & Stallions” party and now in its 9th year, this private party has quickly become known for being one of the best looking, most exclusive, and most star studded of the Derby weekend. While Fillies & Stallions keeps its guest list very private, past notable attendees and regulars include Ashton Kutcher, Aaron Rodgers, Lindsay Vonn, Tony Romo, Clay Matthews, Wes Welker, Shaquille O’Neil, Dr. J, Scottie Pippen, Travis Tritt, Sidney Crosby, Bobby Flay, Nick Lachey, Tom Brady, Warren Moon and many more.
