Extra Innings 2025 Recap - Boots & Baseball All in One Place

Extra Innings 2025 Recap - Boots & Baseball All in One Place

Bases loaded, and expectations exceeded! The Extra Innings Festival has wrapped up its second year with a spectacular success. Attendees danced and sang their hearts out alongside top performers such as Kings of Leon, Megan Moroney, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, and many more.

The Extra Innings Festival serves as the encore to the Innings Festival. Both events take place at Tempe Beach Park over two days, with Extra Innings focusing more on country and folk music, while the Innings Festival primarily features alt-rock and indie bands. Both festivals do an exceptional job of avoiding overlapping sets—thank goodness!

This year Evan Honer, Trampled by Turtles, Wyatt Flores, O.A.R. Megan Moroney, Red Clay Straws, The Lumineers, Grace Potter, Kings of Leon, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, and more took to the stage. From bluegrass and pop to country sprinkled with a little pop - Extra Innings didn’t strike out with this lineup.

When it comes to attendees, it was very clear that attendees dressed the part as there were cowboy boots everywhere – inspired by Megan Moroney of course. Which comes as no surprise as the blue-eyed country crooner recently announced a boot partnership with Lane Boots! Let’s get into the highlights now for the 2nd rendition of the festival.

The crowd gathered at right field for the O.A.R concert was no surprise, as the band has been performing for over two decades. During their hour-long set, they played classic hits such as "This Town," "Love and Memories," and "California." However, it was the song "Shattered" that transformed the crowd into a karaoke session. The high energy of the midday performance was palpable, especially with trumpet player Jon Lampley, who turned the stage into his runway with his over-the-top antics, particularly during his solo moments.

One thing is for sure: if you didn't know who Megan Moroney was before, you certainly do now! The country singer completely captivated the audience during her set. Looking out into the crowd, you could see many adoring fans singing along to every single word. At one point, she brought out blue roses and gifted them to an audience member—how sweet! Throughout her performance, Moroney shared some surprises with the crowd, saying, “This is my first festival, and y’all have exceeded my expectations.” Extra Innings was the perfect lead-up as she prepares to kick off her "Am I Ok" tour next month. “Music is healing. I'm grateful to connect through music and lyrics,” before singing “The Girl in The Mirror”.

Red Clay Strays:

The crowd couldn’t help but two-step the night away while listening to Red Clay Strays, which comes as no surprise, as the band embodies the spirit of a little country with a blend of rock and bluegrass. At one point during the set, frontman Brandon Coleman remarked, “You guys are alright.”

“A lot of people say we play country music, but I disagree,” Coleman stated. “I think we play rock ‘n’ roll more than anything.” Throughout their performance, the band made an effort to connect with the audience by sharing insights about their music and their roots in Mobile, AL.

Before performing their next song, Coleman addressed the crowd, saying, “This next song is about mental health. If anyone in the crowd is struggling, reach out for help. It does get better, I promise you.” He added, “Be kind to people; you never know what someone is going through. Everyone just wants to be loved.” He then played “Just Want to Be Loved.”

Kings of Leon:

Fans of Kings of Leon eagerly took their places to see the beloved band perform on the Home Plate stage around 6:30 PM. The setlist featured several singles from their most recent album, "Can We Please Have Fun," along with popular classics like "Waste a Moment," "Closer," and "Revelry." "Are y'all ready to dance?" frontman Caleb Followill asked before launching into "Sex on Fire." As expected, the audience embraced the moment and danced without holding back. The band closed with “Use Somebody,” which disappointed a few attendees wanting an encore for such a stellar performance.

Additional Highlights:

Marren Morris closed out the Right Field stage immediately after Kings of Leon. Although her set had a slower pace, her star quality, love, and empathy shined through. At one point, Morris expressed her support for Ukraine. Kacey Musgraves, who recently toured for her album “Deeper Well,” wrapped up the Extra Innings event and even performed “Neon Moon,” her song with Brooks & Dunn.

Another successful year is in the books, and it’s hard to believe this was only the second installment of Extra Innings. One thing is certain: the festival organizers have mastered this event. With the recent Innings Festival (the two-day festival held the previous weekend) in mind, the organizers continue to raise the bar, even adding some AstroTurf to mitigate the high levels of dust that Tempe Beach Park generates. We’re excited to see how next year builds on this success. Until then, we will cherish the memories of this incredible festival.
