Minnie Driver helps raise over $66k at the Dress For Success 7th Annual Empower Breakfast
It is often said that Los Angeles, much like New York, is the kind of town where, if a working professional can “make it here,” they can “make it anywhere”. But for so many of us, visualizing our career goals is the easy part. Figuring out how to map out and actually achieve our dream, however, is often something else entirely. And if you’re a woman, you often find yourself confronted with the reality of additional obstacles in your career path which your male counterparts may not even be aware exist. This is why it is so inspiring to learn that events like the Dress for Success Empowerment Breakfast, held on Thursday, June 13th at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, exist.
The Empowerment Breakfast is an annual event, established to help likeminded, career-oriented women connect, network and plan out strategies for setting goals and achieving success in the modern workplace. The organizer, Dress for Success, is a nonprofit organization that has specialized in empowering women to achieve economic independence through a network of support systems, resources and development tools since 1997.
Featuring a delicious seated breakfast, silent auction to benefit local women’s charities, inspiring tales from keynote speakers, celebrity attendees such as actress Minnie Driver and Miss California 2018 MacKenzie Freed, and a dynamic panel of some of LA’s most successful women, the event managed to raise over $66,000 for charity while providing the 200+ guests in attendance with resources into navigating the difficult world of managing relationships in a workplace setting.
Topics discussed included goal-setting, time management, workplace attire, assertiveness, establishing and managing expectations with clarity, maintaining open lines of communication, how best to engage in productive dialogue in an office environment, ways to market oneself in a demanding industry, and much more.
