A Day of Play at the 3rd Annual WE ALL PLAY FUNdraiser
By: Sainabou Gaye
Spirits were high Saturday, April 28th at The 3rd annual We All Play FUNdraiser. The event was held at the new upcoming location for the Zimmer Children’s Museum in the heart of Santa Monica. Filled with color and laughter the event featured live performances, food, and interactive art great for some cute pictures of the kids. Funds from the event provide low income children opportunities not just free admission into the museum; but for camps, classes and scholarships.
Giving back to those in need was something on many of the attendees mind. Actress JoAnna Garcia said ‘she feels strongly about giving children the opportunity to experience things that they wouldn’t get to do regularly.’ This is a cause that is close to her heart, JoAnna and her husband run the Swisher Family foundation that also aims to provide ‘opportunities to children in need’ .
JoAnna wasn’t the only starlet that came to show support, Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester came solo, rocking a summery black and white dress. Meester is known for being very private when it comes to sharing details about her family. She did tell us that her 2 year old daughter Arlo is a curious tot, and that museums like this are good for children. “ Playing is how they learn and work… that’s their job!
The FUNdraiser wasn’t just about the blue carpet, but about the kids. Sky Katz from Raven’s Home brought down the house with a few songs. Interactive art was also a huge attraction, ‘S’well’ water bottles providing children with free bottles that they were able to customize and draw on. Kess hoops offered dazzling Hula hoops for children to try and take home.
Cast Iron Boutique Catering offered savory treats like Mac and Cheese, sandwiches and bite size poke. For those in the mood for something sweet, DK’s Donuts offered a white chocolate fountain to coat your donuts. There was also cheesecake, cotton candy, and fresh fruit. A little something to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth.
We All Play FUNdraiser had something to make everyone happy, and it was for a great cause. The Zimmer Children’s museum will be opening in the heart of Santa Monica soon, making it easy for families to play and learn together. Thanks to this FUNdraiser children from low-income families will get to enjoy this interactive museum.
