Marriage Story Dominates at the Star Studded 29th Annual Gotham Awards
Hollywood's favorite season is undoubtedly "award season." Last night many of Hollywood A-listers attended the Independent Feature Project’s (IFP) celebrity-studded 29th Annual Gotham Awards at Cipriani Wall Street.
Gotham Independent Film Awards primarily focuses on indie films and is the perfect opportunity for insiders and hopefuls to get a taste of what films will be in the limelight for future months. For its second year, renowned Robert Hall Winery served as wine sponsor of the star-studded evening.
Dozens of stars like: Akwafina, Noah Baumbach, Adam Driver, Vera Farmiga, Beanie Feldstein, Aisling Franciosi, Jim Gaffigan, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Lopez, Todd Douglas Miller, Elisabeth Moss, Keke Palmer, Julia Reichert, Adam Sandler, Chloe Sevigny, Julia Stiles, Jason Sudekis, Uma Thurman, Frances Turner, Aisha Tyler, Lulu Wang, Nanfu Wang, Olivia Wilde, Alfre Woodard, Constance Wu and more were mingling throughout the evening.
At a later point in the night, Alex Rodriguez magically materialized and sat next to Lopez, draping his arm around his fiancée who was surrounded by her co-stars on Hustlers. Lopez was joined at the dinner by three of her Hustler co-stars. Julia Stiles, Lili Reinhart, and Lopez matched in black dresses. while Constance Wu opted to don a pink dress for a pop of color.
Lopez spoke to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the Gotham Awards about her Super Bowl halftime performance preparation. "For me, I'm obviously going to try to put together the best show that I can, but it's also about having fun," she continued. "Just being up there, staying present in the moment and enjoying all of the wonderful things that are happening."
Awkwafina has been having quite the year ever since the release of Crazy Rich Asians. She even took home the best actress award for her performance inThe Farewell.
“I never win anything, I can’t even win an argument in the Instagram comments,” Awkwafina joked in her happily flustered speech. “It means so much to be accepting this in my hometown. I used to walk by Cipriani and I was like, ‘What the hell is that?’ Now I know what it is.”
A literal cavalcade of stars in attendance enjoyed Robert Hall’s family of Paso Robles, CA wines, including tribute honorees Laura Dern, Sam Rockwell, Ava DuVernay, Glen Basner, IFP executive director Jeff Sharp, as well as Award nominees and winners.
Just ahead of its release on Netflix, Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” lead the evening and took home four awards including best feature.
“My special effect, my everything is the cast,” he said — and to Netflix for what he called its “unconditional” support of his film, a portrait of divorce starring Driver and Scarlett Johansson.
Cheers to the nominees and congrats to the winners!
