Don Cheadle Depicts The Legendary Miles Davis Brilliantly in The Film, Miles Ahead
Many actors, insiders, and admirers gathered at the WGA theater in Beverly Hills for the Miles Ahead Premiere Party, which was produced by A-list communications and sponsored by Maestro Dobel Tequila.
Celebrating the life and legacy of the jazz great, Miles Ahead takes a look back at the trials and tribulations during the fall of Miles Davis as he struggles to adapt to new age jazz, health issues, as well as his battle with the use of drugs. Produced, co-written, directed and starring as Miles Davis himself, Don Cheadle stated that making this film allowed him to "be inventive and be spontaneous".
A big part in Miles Davis' life, which was depicted in this film, is his love for his wife Frances Davis. Through heightened emotions viewers will see the fail of their relationship as its portrayed almost perfectly and in a way that the audience felt as if it were their own. Played by Emayatzy Corinealdi, the real Frances Davis was actually in the audience of the screening. "I didn't know what to expect and what she would think of me. When i met her she has this light, this energy about her that I think Miles was attracted to. I understand that need to want to keep it for yourself in that sense which i think is so beautiful, explained Corinealdi. "She shared with me her experiences and her stories that she shared with Miles. I wanted to make sure that she is pleased and at the same time honor Don's script. Having the real woman be so supportive of me doing that allowed me the freedom to just be."
This scene left a mark on the viewers as I feel that it may have resonated with many, in their own life either romantically or career wise. "That scene I wanted to hear more of the music, it immediately gave me this weird feeling like mom and dad were fighting and you didn't want to hear it" Cheadle explained. "That music, just Nefertiti - the title of it, just supposing it against what is happening to his queen at that point, it's very evocative to me. Lets just listen to Nefertiti and watch these two people unfortunately tear at the fiber of their relationship."
The film also stars Ewan McGregor who plays Dave Brill who stands as Davis' who starts off as a grimy reporter but quickly gets thrown in the mix of things and becomes his side kick.
Following the Q+A and along with co-star Ewan McGregor, Don chatted with attendees till the very end of the event over Dobel Tequila cocktails. Additional guests included: including Lenny Kravitz, Dr Dre, Jussie Smollett, Alfre Woodard, David Alan Grier, Garcelle Beauvais, Aloe Blacc, Regina King, and Michael Ealy.
Miles Ahead is set to release on April 1st. Don't miss this amazing remake of one of the legendary jazz greats!
