Move Over Mariah Carey - There’s a New 'Queen of Christmas' in Town
Now that Thanksgiving is over, we can officially move on to the best holiday of the year – CHRISTMAS! Full disclosure, I’m not one for the holiday itself, more so the cheer and décor (more on that later). But there is one person who is ALL about the holiday and even deems herself the “Queen of Christmas!” Elizabeth Chan, one of music’s most celebrated holiday artists, recently released her latest Christmas album, Celebrate Me Home, on streaming platforms worldwide, including iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music and others.
The new album, Celebrate Me Home, from Merry Bright Music/The Orchard, includes eight original songs and two interpretations of classic holiday hits by Chan, who wrote and recorded much of the music during the COVID shut down this past spring and summer. The music is Chan’s most personal music to date, further establishing her as “The Queen of Christmas,” a title bestowed on the artist by none other than the New Yorker.
“Celebrate Me Home is my ninth album, but in a way, it feels like a renewal,” says Chan. “After this year, there is such a deeper appreciation for music that celebrates love, family, friends and a sense we’re all in this together, which is what Christmas is all about. 2020 really crystalized what is most important in our lives. Through some very dark times, some really wonderful things emerged, and it was important to reflect that in my music.”
She’s the “Queen of Christmas,” because she is one of the few artists, in music history, who solely focuses on Christmas music, even from such a young age! Her love for the craft of Christmas music has also included directing her music videos. Including once shutting down Times Square for her first single “A Christmas Song.”
From writing Christmas songs for Kelly Clarkson to spreading joy and cheer through her incredible music, Elizabeth Chan is here to stay. The end result of her latest album is a labor of love. It’s an album that effortlessly mixes Chan’s reflections on the year with an exuberant holiday beat, providing the perfect soundtrack for the Christmas season.
