The Red Chickz - Bringing a New Wave of Heat to DTLA
Fried chicken is the craze right now, but have you tried Nashville Hot Chicken? The Red Chickz in DTLA is bringing on an entire wave of heat to the city of Los Angeles.
Located at 6th and Spring, next to Fry Madness, The Red Chickz is a rarity. Dedicating the restaurant to an LA favorite! The twist? It's purely dry rub fried chicken (and shrimp) without a wet sauce. The dry rub brings forth the actual flavors and heat behind the items without masking it in a plethora of sauce.
Apparently they used to have over 80 items on the menu, however, have decided to eliminate some items in order to perfect items they felt were the . strongest on the menu. The final result? Nashville Hot Chicken, Shrimp, and a few notable sides. They've stripped down the complexities when it comes to ordering as well. You simply pick your main, your spice level, and your sauce. Biting into delicious food in 3...2...1! They also have Taco Tuesdays as well as Chicken & Waffles served on weekends only!
Using a dry rub spices, instead of sauce based, this establishment takes heat to a another level. From cool to inferno, you decide the spice level. This is the only place where you will have to sign a waiver for anything over "bonfire." "I didn't think too many people would be trying "inferno," but people love a challenge," said Nima Christensen one of the mangers at The Red Chickz. "We will be launching a new spice level called,"Hotter Than You," in the next few weeks and the winner will receive a free meal if they complete it as well as a gift." Challenge accepted?!
The Red Chickz is more than just great food, it's a great environment. "We are focused on making everyone feel like family. We are one of our own and we are different," states Christensen. "Remember us, remember the people, and remember the environment."
From local partnerships and in-store collaborations with Golden Road monthly, they are constantly trying to find innovative takes to involve the community. Be sure to check out their IG HERE to stay up to date. This is def worth a visit once you’re in LA!
