SUR Restaurant and Lounge's Chic Transformation
West Hollywood is quite the scene. From buzzing nightlife to rotating restaurants that cater to every palate. One restaurant that has stood the test of time is SUR Restaurant & Lounge. Located at the prime corner of Melrose and Robertson, SUR is a beautiful restaurant that delivers on many fronts.
Angelenos know that SUR has been relevant for years, mainly because of the television show Vanderpump Rules, however, the space has been evolving ever since its grand debut.
Whether you’re looking for an intimate, quiet setting or a fun night out with top 40s music, the space is a chic establishment that gives three different vibes under one roof. The newly remodeled and expanded modern-day secret garden is picturesque and inviting. The luxe private dining room is perfect for those looking for an intimate group dining experience. The sophisticated, elegant, and exotic dining areas are draped with velvet, chandeliers, leather Chesterfields, and candlelight. For those looking to dine al fresco, the establishment has a lovely new large outdoor patio complete with lush floral arrangements adorned throughout the space. My personal favorite is the chic garden oasis because it's dreamy and, to be honest, it’s a vibe.
“Dining at SUR is a traveling experience. The atmosphere of our “Main Room” is very French with classic artifact, Our “Pinky Room” is straight from a Moroccan Riad, The “Kimono Dining Room” is our lounge and is more of a British masculine space with very high ceilings and a bird cage chandelier. While our “Hidden Garden” transports you to Asia with luxuriant plants and large Shiva statue,” Nathalie Zapata, co-owner of SUR EXCLUSIVELY shared with IdentifyLA. “Our space was so large that we wanted to invite our guests to different atmosphere rooms, to create a more intimate experience. And then recurring customers can have a different experience each time. A dinner in our main room will be quieter and more inclined for conversation where a dinner in our kimono room will be more lively since it is near our bar. Whatever your mood of the night, we will have something for you.”
Recently I got the opportunity to check out the new menu and the revamped space which is equally impressive. Begin your culinary journey with a refreshing Green Goddess cocktail and the sauteed jumbo lump crap meat. The dish is served with charred corn poblano relish and citrus aioli that compliments the tender crab meat. The charred octopus is an adventurous dish that deserves exploring. Plated with smoked potato, cauliflower puree, and sprinkled with olive dust this was truly a nice surprise. The excitement doesn’t stop there. If you’re a meat lover, choose one of the steak dishes for your entrée. The delectable cuts are cooked to perfection.
SUR is owned by two couples, a team of four friends who enjoy taking care of the restaurant from day to day. Guillermo Zapata, Argentinean manager of some of the finest restaurants in Los Angeles, ran SUR for 10 years. In 2005, Guillermo and Nathalie joined forces with Lisa Vanderpump Todd and Ken Todd, a British couple who own 10 restaurants and bars in London, all designed by Lisa. This combination of international expertise has led to a restaurant that is on the cutting edge of style and cuisine. From ambiance to plate the newly revamped SUR Restaurant & Lounge is perfection.
“If you’re looking to have a good time, experience our lively atmosphere, listen to good music, and of course indulge in good food and yummy cocktails, then SUR is the place for you,” Nathalie stated. “Depending on where you are seated, you can have the best romantic date or you can have a wild night with your girlfriend for a bachelorette evening.”
