'The End of Us' - A COVID-19 Rom-Com Provides Comedic Relief During SXSW 2021

We all knew it was coming, but is it too soon? Not at all. The End of Us just made its debut at the SXSW 2021 Festival. The film beautifully depicts the roller coaster of the COVID-19 lockdown from the eyes of a couple that has just decided to end things. Unfortunately the two must continue living together once California issued its stay-at-home order, but it’s far from glamourous. Perhaps it’s poor timing, but what do you do? Dare to survive a global pandemic alone? Or do you make lemonade out of lemons as you adjust to the new normal and move on without moving out.

BuzzFeed Studios has signed on to executive produce the Schlemiel Pictures pandemic comedy The End of Us which is set to make its world premiere in competition next month at the SXSW Film Festival

Directed by Henry Loevner and Steven Kanter, The End of Us is full of witty punch lines that almost makes viewers re-live the early days of the lockdown. The paranoia, over-purchasing, end of the world days that we all remember far too well. The comedic writing is genius. The End of US takes it up a notch and hits the bar with the many stereotypes of LA individuals and couples. One is extremely type A whereas the other is a struggling actor. It’s so LA!

“When the world was entering lockdown in 2020, we were inspired by Ben’s story of his breakup with his long-term girlfriend in the middle of a global pandemic,” said filmmakers Loevner, Kanter, and producer Claudia Restrepo in a joint statement. “As we set out to make an authentic, lighthearted illustration of how young people were dealing with life in quarantine, we decided to make this film with the most talented people we know, who happened to be all our former colleagues at BuzzFeed.”

The End of Us stars: Ben Coleman, Ali Vingiano, Derrick DeBlasis, Gadiel Del Orbe, Kate Peterman, Colin Weatherby, Caroline Kwan, Will Neff, Jesse Benjamin, Claudia Restrepo. With the rollout of the vaccine, and as the world now begins to slowly peel be perfect time. It’s realistic light humor, and who doesn’t love a rom-com twist.
